Movie Review - Avatar

Here it is - the first anticipated movie review of the year on this blog. Well, this movie had started showing on 17 December 2009. Don't worry if you can't catch it in a cinema, just buy the DVD or VCD.

This is a very brief summary of the movie; I don't want to spoil the excitement of the film. The story starts in a distant planet called Pandora.

Humans have discovered a mineral called unobtanium - as well as a whole new kingdom of creatures, including a humanoid race called the Na'vi. So they created Avatars, genetically engineered Na'vi bodies to communicate with the natives. All a human has to do is to "plug" in to an Avatar's consciousness, he will have control over the Avatar's body.

The conflict begins when the humans discover that much unobtanium was under the Hometree, a gargantuan tree on which the Na'vi built their homes around. So they used the protagonist in his Avatar form to negotiate for the Na'vis to shift their homes till the minerals were mined. However, the Na'vis refused, so a war began. The humans attacked the Na'vis and destroyed Hometree. But the protagonist, in his Avatar form, was already bonded with the Na'vi tribe, so he felt it was cruel and wrong. Thus, he lead the Na'vi people to a revolution to claim back their homeland.
Once you see the awe of the special effects and the realistic foreign backgrounds of Pandora, felt the heat of the battles and the grief of war, you will never want the movie to end. For this movie I'll rate it a 5/5. A real good show, trust me.
